The Manager, Information Technology and Security will establish and own the overall strategies and procedures for Newsela’s IT and security domains. You will develop and implement IT security and business continuity/disaster recovery programs in accordance with organizational IT and security standards. You’ll also evaluate information risk on an established cadence and promote information security awareness within the organization. You’ll develop functional strategies and specific objectives for IT security, as well as manage budgets, policies, and procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Additionally, you’ll oversee the effective management and support of device inventory and allocation, and will implement cost-effective strategies to ensure best practice equipment inventories. You’ll also oversee the security of Newsela’s CSP-hosted applications and environments (including AWS, GCP, and Azure) and Newsela’s Google Workspace instance. Reporting to the Vice President of IT Operations, you’ll manage a small team consisting of an Information Security Architect and an IT Operations Manager. You will partner closely with Newsela’s Legal team to monitor regulation compliance (e.g. Student PII) and will work across teams to ensure alignment and adherence to security policies and best practices.
In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to grow Newslea’s IT and Security functions and teams in alignment with Newsela’s growth. You work will directly impact our team’s ability to provide secure and reliable solutions to our users (teachers and students), and ultimately impact the learning experience for K-12 schools across the country. Additionally, you’ll help establish new processes to enable scalability of Newsela’ IT infrastructure and will be a champion of documentation and best-in-class security practices throughout the company.
