  • How might we best support movement leaders?

  • What resources do people who come to our site to support an issue need?

  • How might we help people to celebrate, support and motivate others?

Change.org is searching for a Lead Designer with a masterful understanding of, and passion for user experience and product development processes to work within one of our multidisciplinary product teams. You will lead all aspects of the user experience, partnering with other product leads to conceive, design, and execute upon the strategy for your product team.

We're a social impact business (a public benefit company), and the world's largest nonprofit-owned tech platform focused on civic action with 100m monthly users, 50,000+ campaigns launched on the site every month, and a 100% user-generated revenue model. Our users win campaigns for change once every hour. From strengthening hate crime legislation in South Africa and calling for racial justice in the US, to fighting corruption in Indonesia, Italy, and Brazil, and fighting violence against women in India.

We are looking for a Lead Designer who is great at UX, testing, processes and accessibility and has a passion for expanding our platform to mobilize hundreds of millions of people to take deeper civic action.

You may work remotely and be based in certain areas in the United States, Canada, Latin America and Europe. and report to our Principal Designer . As a key member of our Design Team , you'll impact all aspects of the user experience on the Change.org platform.

Key Outcomes

  • Reduce the complexity of our petitioning platform to create a simple, delightful and effective experience.

  • Create prototypes and run experiments to iteratively test new hypotheses.

  • Use and evolve our design system and guidelines, to create new features from ideas on paper to implementation.

  • Apply accessibility standards and guidelines to your designs.

  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers to create product plans and maintain product design processes.

The most important skills and capabilities for the role are:

  • Excellent UX Design skills including all aspects of UX, testing, design, accessibility, processes and more

  • Communication: Can craft compelling stories that persuade team members and stakeholders to adopt their ideas.

  • Collaboration and Feedback: Experience mentoring other designers on design whilst welcoming feedback from others.

  • Research: Is highly experienced at supporting other designers in determining when and how to conduct research, and mentoring designers in how to interpret their findings and apply these changes to their designs.

  • Vision: Has a strong creative vision and the ability to switch easily from blue sky ideation to tactical thinking.

Target experience:

  • At least 8+ years of total design experience

  • At least 2+ years of experience as a Lead Designer owning and executing on impactful products and product improvements

  • Proven understanding of the user experience with a track record of designing simple and delightful solutions

Change.org is a global company, and salaries are adjusted for cost of labor in each city. For example, the annual salary of a Lead Designer is $226,000 in San Francisco, CA or New York, NY , would be $214,500 in Austin, TX or Seattle, WA,

  • 45-minute Zoom interview with Recruiter

  • 1-hour Zoom interview with Hiring Manager

  • Onsite Interview to include 1:1 Interviews and Portfolio Presentation
