Director of UX Design

The Director User Experience (UX) provides the strategy and direction to the UX department. The Director UX has one main agenda, which is leading the UX department in growth and excellence by promoting collaboration in the department, creating a positive environment, embodying the business/product values and assisting in the achievement of product goals. The Director UX also conducts research and documents findings, creates consumer scenarios, and creates strategy documents and content to supply to the UX department personnel as well as collaborating product departments. The most prominent collaborating departments that the Director of UX works with are the product strategy department and the product design department. This role also works with other product management departments to ensure consumer requirements and needs are considered and incorporated in the product from the conceptualization to the realization of the product.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide design and product thought leadership, identifying and developing strategic design opportunities to drive business and product strategy, creating artifacts to align stakeholders and teams
  • Work across and collaborate with product, engineering, UX research, and others to develop and prototype product vision
  • Build and mentor a team of UX designers, ensuring delivery of best-in-class digital user experiences that align to HealthEquity's design principles, industry standards, and emerging digital trends
  • Lead definition of the design work and deliver business outcomes across multiple product teams, with minimal guidance and coaching
  • Distill qualitative and quantitative feedback to unearth recurring themes and promote data-driven design decisions
  • Play an analytical role, charged with gaining extensive awareness on the product's strengths and limitations relative to market/consumer trends, competitive threats, market opportunities, and more importantly, consumer experience.
  • Leverage an array of design skills including service design, strategic design, information architecture, prototyping, user research, and visual design
  • Elevate the UX practice by facilitating a team culture in which co-creation, knowledge sharing, constructive critique, and process improvement are a constant
  • Effective communication as a writer, presenter, and facilitator; equally at ease speaking with partners or executives
  • Formulate recommendations and strategies using research to support evidence-focused design decisions
  • Work on agile teams delivering value in digital products
  • Ability to design across all channels including web, mobile, and voice
  • Constantly evolve design systems, understanding reuse and scale, and knowing when to contribute to make them better
  • Work across the organization to drive consistent associate-facing and consumer facing experiences

What you will need to be successful

  • 10+ years of UX or related experience is preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in building and leading UX/design teams
  • A degree in a related field such as interactive design, architecture, industrial design, graphic design, or human factors is preferred
  • Experience in leading UX projects across multiple digital channels (web, mobile, voice) is required
  • Passion for creating value for both internal and external HealthEquity users, and enthusiasm for Agile processes that help develop these products
  • Organized and thoughtful approaches to problem solving; structures business problems clearly and effectively to create and evaluate potential solutions
  • Desire to work within a diverse group of people and passion for challenging the status quo

This is a remote position.
