Real Estate team, you will have the opportunity to apply your practical experience in a highly professional environment with other experienced attorneys. Our subscribers include most major international law firms and corporations, including approximately 90% of the Am Law 200, hundreds of small and mid-size firms, and over 1,800 legal departments worldwide.


About the Role

:In this opportunity as a Senior Legal Editor (Construction Law Specialist), you will:

  • Take on a leadership role for the Practical Law Real Estate Service, driving content planning and development of new resources for attorneys handling a variety of routine and complex real estate matters with an emphasis on construction matters.
  • Develop, write, and edit a wide variety of know-how and current awareness resources on real estate construction matters (including practice guidance notes, standard documents, checklists, standard clauses, and legal updates) for practicing attorney-subscribers.
  • Monitor legal developments and legal practice trends in construction, with the overarching goal of ensuring our coverage is current, accurate, and relevant.
  • Collaborate with other Practical Law editors on content planning and priorities to meet the practice needs of real estate and construction lawyers, and to identify and develop new high-value resources covering construction.
  • Help us develop and maintain construction resources to serve all markets.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external lawyers to find content contributors and to ensure that the construction content is topical and meets their needs.
  • Stay informed of current developments and issues in construction to ensure timely updates of existing content and development of new content.
  • Work with sales and marketing teams to promote the Practical Law Real Estate Service.
  • Organize and conduct webinars on topics of interest to attorneys practicing construction law and assist with marketing initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison with one or more members of Practical Law Real Estate's Advisory Board, a group of the nation's industry leading attorneys.
  • Work remotely from home on a permanent basis.

About You:

You're a fit for the role of Senior Legal Editor (Construction Law Specialist)
if you have:

  • Minimum of eight (8) years' experience working as a lawyer in a law firm or as in-house counsel, with a significant or exclusive focus on highly sophisticated commercial construction transactions on a national basis.
  • A construction background, having represented owners, contractors, construction managers, and design professionals in complex commercial construction transactions across different sectors and using various project delivery systems, including design-build and construction manager at risk.
  • Extensive experience in drafting and negotiating sophisticated construction agreements, including working with AIA and other industry forms in addition to creation of custom contracts.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Enthusiasm and ambition, with a desire to improve the efficiency of legal services.
  • Keen interest in, and understanding of, all facets of commercial construction.
  • A solid understanding of the needs and priorities of law firm attorneys and in-house counsel and the legal market, including complexities that arise when negotiating construction agreements.
  • A passion for writing and good editing skills, including:
    o very close attention to detail;
    o impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English; and
    o the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
  • Self-motivated with excellent management and organizational skills to effectively track productivity and ensure product development milestones are met.
  • Ability to constantly collaborate with and support team members in a remote environment and to operate efficiently in a remote environment without on-site technical support.
  • Current license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following (New York City, San Francisco, Culver City). The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $125,500 - $233,100. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following states (CA, CO, CT, NV, WA) and/or remote. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $114,100 - $211,900. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
