R&Y Labs is a cutting edge consultancy specializing in Fintech, Healthtech, and Civictech app development. We are searching for a skilled Front-End and UX Design experts to add to the team as PART-TIME CONTRACT contributors. Here at R&Y Labs, each of our teammates is an expert in their field, which allows us to build quickly and efficiently, and get our clients' projects to market FAST.
THE ROLE
As an R&Y Labs Contributor, you will act as a supplemental teammate for existing projects, helping to push time-sensitive releases over the finish line by knocking out tasks as assigned by your project manager or tech lead.
For this particular role, we are looking for an expert in CSS and UX Design, preferably with experience using libraries like Tailwind, that can contribute 10-20 hours a week on relatively simple design tasks, such as resizing and reformatting existing displays, optimizing performance of dynamic elements, and even help us figure out better ways to implement existing features.
You'll report directly to a project manager, track your tasks and progress in Asana, communicate via Slack, and ultimately deliver pull-requests with the necessary code to satisfy the requirements of your assigned tasks. Simple, straight-forward, and with little unexpected headaches to bog you down. You'll be expected to attend any all-team meetings, but those are VERY limited and for the most part you will spend 90% of your time on actual work as opposed to talking about working.
What We Need
The ideal candidate has many years of productive work history as a Front End UX designer, and considers themselves an expert in simple CSS and view optimization. The majority of our projects are Ruby on Rails monoliths, meaning a lot of your work will be on style sheets and adjusting variables to fit the screens.
We do have projects with considerably higher complexity, and for these you may be tasked with building a full-fledged front-end client using React, Vue, or another chosen framework to integrate with our Ruby on Rails backend services. The ideal candidate will have no problem spinning up new projects and converting existing static Rails views to dynamic front-end modules.

Because time is our most valuable asset, and we don't have enough to be patient with entry-level folks who need extra hours to learn a system before they can use it. We would rather pay an expert what they're worth and get a solution that works, quickly, with as few questions asked as possible.

- Straightforward work process: tickets with all relevant information for a given task will be assigned to you in Asana with very clear silos for communicating progress - no needless status reports, no tedious update processes. Just do the work, then move the ticket and the Product Owner will reach out as needed! Not sure what to do? Drop a comment on the ticket and the relevant stakeholder will respond or reach out in Slack.
