smartdept.inc. is searching for a UX/UI Designer for a pharmacy and eCommerce client located in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will come with 2+ years of experience in service design, design research, and/or design strategy with 13+ years of experience in modern app programming languages (e.g., Java, .Net).


This is a full-time, fully remote, 6-month contract with the possibility of extension or conversion to a permanent position. Compensation for this position is $120-$142/hour depending on experience level and fit.


Project Focus: Transforming the Native App experience to better support the client's customer health and wellness; this project has a very specific plan and focus – integrating research into journey maps, conducting work sessions, and in the next few months, providing recommendations and holistic journey map/review of what the app exp should be; as well as a map of capabilities that the client needs to leverage/build in this experience; More digital-focused, but candidates who can think “Omni-channel” would be helpful.


What You’ll Do


  • Design software applications to support complex workflows, visualize large datasets, or operate system-level tools.
  • Provide user interface design services.
  • Collaborate with product development stakeholders (e.g., product and technical managers, graphic designers, technical writers, developers, and end-users) to deliver new products and enhancements.
  • Designing holistic services within specific strategic priorities or value streams.
  • You will practice design thinking methodologies—framing the problem, discovering user insights, ideating, prototyping, evaluating, and iterating.
  • Create journey maps, service blueprints, ecosystem maps, prototypes, and other deliverables to communicate service components.
  • A key responsibility will be designing and facilitating ideation and alignment workshops with cross-functional teams.


What You’ll Need
  • Required:
    • Bachelor's degree + a minimum of 2 years exp practicing service design, design research, and/or design strategy
      • OR a high school diploma/GED + a minimum of 4 years of experience
    • 13+ years of experience in modern app programming languages (e.g., Java, .Net)
    • Fluent in front-end web development languages (e.g., CSS, JavaScript)
    • Experience owning deliverables for service design engagements such as design research, prototypes, journey maps, and service blueprints
    • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including research, design, product, technology, engineering, and business partners
    • Experience planning/facilitating design-led work sessions
    • Experience using Figma, Mira, Mural, or similar design tools
  • Preferred:
    • MS Degree - Service Design, Product Design, Interaction Design, Human Factors, User Interface Design, Psychology, or related field
    • Experience in adjacent design fields such as design research, UX design, or product design
    • Experience in a design consultancy and/or within a larger company
    • Experience in the healthcare and/or retail industries
