The Opportunity
Recurrent Ventures is seeking a Senior Editor to join the team at Field & Stream. This is a senior-level editorial position responsible for managing the production and delivery of high-quality editorial content. This position reports to the Executive Editor and is responsible for pitching, assigning, editing, proofreading, and writing articles; managing a team of writers; and collaborating with other departments to ensure that content meets the publication's standards, goals, and objectives.
Responsibilities
- Pitch, assign, edit, and proofread how-to articles, narrative features, gear reviews, news, and other content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and style consistency.
- Manage a team of writers, providing feedback, guidance, and support to ensure that content meets the publication's standards.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as design and production, to ensure that content is produced on time and meets the publication's goals and objectives.
- Ensure that all content is optimized for SEO and social media.
- Develop and execute editorial initiatives and projects that align with the publication's goals and objectives.
- Develop and manage relationships with writers, contributors, and other external partners to ensure a steady flow of high-quality content.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices, and make recommendations for improvements to the publication's editorial processes.
- Represent the publication in public settings, such as media events and conferences.
- Serve as the Executive Editor's delegate in their absence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field is preferred.
- At least five (5) years of editorial experience with at least two (2) years in a leadership position.
- Experience in the outdoors—particularly hunting and fishing. The candidate should not only be passionate about hunting and fishing; they should be knowledgeable and well-versed in the tactics, gear, seasons, species, conservation issues, and trends related to hunting and fishing.
- Network of writers who can contribute to the brand.
- Strong understanding of the media industry, including digital media and social media.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and inspire a team.
- Familiarity with content management systems and digital publishing tools.
- Familiarity with SEO.
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- A passion for journalism, storytelling, and engaging content.
