The Events Calendar is looking for an experienced Lead WordPress Product Designer (UI/UX) to join our fully remote global team of product managers, designers, engineers, marketers, and customer support specialists. We’re passionate about crafting exceptional user experiences for our best-in-class WordPress Calendar and Event Tickets plugins. As the design visionary, you'll play a key role in shaping design strategies for new features that resonate with our customers and elevate our products.

You'll lead the charge, collaborating with our talented cross-functional teams and stakeholders to bring user-centric solutions to life. You will be responsible for conducting user research and defining user flows, design system components, page layouts, and interaction designs.

To excel in this role, you should have hands-on experience with design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch, and be familiar with prototyping tools. Demonstrated expertise in WordPress design and best practices, including themes, plugins, and customizations, is essential.

This is a permanently remote full-time position with a pay range of  $80,000 - $100,000 annually.

Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct comprehensive UX research and tests, gathering and synthesizing data to present findings and justify design recommendations and improvements.
  • Formulate data-driven and goal-oriented design approaches and tasks, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Partner with Product Managers to receive and fine-tune user stories with stakeholders for holistic interface design.
  • Produce and defend UI/UX deliverables, including roles/personas, site/screen maps, user flows, and wireframes.
  • Present to and collaborate with stakeholders, product team, and developers on scenarios, end-to-end experiences, and screen designs.
  • Create new user interface style guides, components, and design systems, or customize existing ones to match product needs, life cycle stages, and consistency across products.
  • Maintain and update design system components and documentation.
  • Design high-fidelity user interface mockups and clickable prototypes, providing a compelling visual representation of design concepts.
  • Champion and adhere to accessibility standards, such as A11y and WCAG, to ensure inclusive and user-friendly digital product designs.
  • Translate visual designs into comprehensive design specifications for seamless implementation by developers.
  • Ensure high-quality front-end implementation of designs, collaborating closely with developers through specifications, annotations, handoff, questions, and design quality assurance.

Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in design or a related field or commensurate experience
  • Proven track record with at least 5 years of experience as a UI/UX designer with a strong focus on WordPress-based products
  • Expertise in gathering and analyzing user insights to drive data-informed design decisions
  • Outstanding visual design skills with a keen understanding of user-system interaction
  • Proficiency in using design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch
  • Familiarity with visual collaboration tools such as Miro or Mural
  • Proficient in crafting sketches, wireframes, and prototypes from concept to high-fidelity designs
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities with a creative and practical approach to design challenges
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of front-end development principles and the ability to collaborate with developers
  • Knowledge of WordPress best practices, including themes, plugins, and customizations
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG) and SEO best practices
  • Experience with Jira or similar project management software and writing design specs for developers
  • Excellent collaboration skills, fostering a positive and productive working relationship with teammates and project stakeholders
  • Experience utilizing a range of user experience best practices, patterns, and guidelines, as well as UI styles and frameworks to solve diverse design cases
  • Familiarity with design guidelines such as Apple's Human Interface Guidelines, Google's Material Design, Nielsen's 10 Usability Heuristics, and inclusive and accessible design guidelines like A11y, WCAG, and ADA compliance criteria
  • A passion for digital products, WordPress, and keeping up-to-date with industry trends to make design decisions based on modern concepts and best practices aligned with product, user, and business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Adept at building and fostering a design-thinking mindset and process within an organization
  • Skilled in facilitating discovery workshops to uncover valuable insights, drive innovation and promote creative problem-solving
  • Proven experience leading and executing successful Design Sprints
