Now, we're rolling out a suite of new privacy solutions, including Email Protection, App Tracking Protection
and our first-ever Desktop Apps for Mac and Windows.
We're looking for a Engineering Director, Fraud Prevention to help shape our all-in-one privacy solution and join our mission to show the world that protecting your privacy online can be simple.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will provide a hands-on approach to leadership, guiding, directing, and executing improvements to our fraud software architecture. Using a data-driven approach, you'll uncover the signals that help us identify and understand fraud trends while scoping solutions to root causes. You will also improve our existing traffic quality system through automation, workflow streamlining, system optimization, and adding new signals.
As a leader, you will hire, mentor, and lead a team of Traffic Quality Engineers building a world-class system, as well as other engineers and data scientists as needed. Through your pragmatic reasoning, you will navigate complex challenges with multiple competing interests, while also participating in a shared rotation to quickly respond to real-time invalid traffic incidents (no on-call).
What You Will Bring to DuckDuckGo
- Comprehensive experience leading teams of technically senior data science engineers working on large, complex, mature consumer-facing web applications.
- 7+ years experience with data science, including statistical modelling and time series analysis
- 5+ years programming with Python or R
- 2+ years experience in fraud prevention/bot detection, including experience in botnet detection in web-based applications
- Experience with optimizing a real-time production-based system
- Experience with data visualization
- Confidence with pragmatic use and development of data structures and algorithms
- Able to effectively navigate and improve a large and complicated code base quickly

Compensation
Annual compensation: $220,000 USD and stock options.Compensation is the same within a professional level, regardless of geographic location or functional area, and the compensation for each professional level is transparent across the organization.

Please note that:
Sometimes we meet up! Expect to travel at least two times a year: once for our all-hands meetup and again for a team retreat (each around 4-5 days). While extenuating circumstances may impact attendance, everyone is strongly encouraged to attend.
- While we offer a flexible work arrangement with no core hours, expect an average full-time commitment of 40 hours per week.
