Freedom Learning Group is looking for a self-driven educator and Criminology Subject Matter Expert (SME) to effectively drive the curriculum development, review course guides, course materials, and curricula within their specialty. In this writing intensive role, you will expertly review curriculum for consistency and quality across courses and serve as the final course reviewer before academic leadership approval. You will ensure the development of high-quality, current, relevant, and engaging core course curricula in alignment with accreditation standards and guidelines.
Role Responsibilities
Strong writing skills and the ability to turn around batches of writing content on an aggressive timeline are key
Identify skill objectives and create course outlines for new courses or course revisions
Serve as a consultant for this skill by answering specific content questions that will inform the learning design for this skill
Analyze the skill objectives, content outlines, and activity types and make recommendations on what will be most effective to help students learn this targeted skill at a foundational level
Provide feedback on content assets as they are in development to ensure the accuracy of the information being presented
Collaborate with Learning Designer in the development of skills content, including assessments and media
Attend scheduled online meetings (check-ins and other sessions as needed)
Provide recommendations for alignment of skill assets in courses

Basic Qualifications
A Master’s degree in Criminology or a closely related field is required; education and related experience will be considered in lieu of minimum education requirements
At least 3 years of teaching experience is required in one of the related fields: Criminology, Criminal Justice, Law, Sociology and Criminology, Criminal Behavior, Criminal Analysis, Law and Justice
Previous experience creating course content as a Subject Matter Expert
Understand curriculum design documents, standards, and processes
Knowledge of principles and best practices of curriculum/assessment design and writing
Strong communication skills
Clear and effective writing
Strong editing and review skills
Tracking tasks to completion with limited oversight and direction
Accountability to team and project goals
Proactively raises and addresses schedule and quality concerns
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office-style tools, and Windows or MacOS
Demonstrated strong technical skills (spreadsheets, presentations, and HTML)
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Maintain composure in stressful situations
Preferred Qualifications
A PhD in Criminology or a closely related field is preferred
Project Duration
This project requires an 8 month commitment.
Required Availability
This is a contractor position requiring availability within the hours of 8-5PM EST, with a flexible part-time workload of up to 25 hours per week.
