About The Role
The Private Markets Writer will play a key role in executing Opto’s content strategy, as we look to create an engaging experience for our RIA user-base by providing genuinely useful analytical and educational content.
Primary responsibilities will include writing and editing interesting and engaging content on private markets, including private equity, venture capital, real estate, infrastructure, and private credit, distilling complex topics into simple, clear language and coherent, actionable narratives for our RIA clients. You will also provide copywriting support for sales and marketing and communications efforts across various media, including emails, newsletters, UX copy, marketing and sales materials, and social media.
Reporting directly to the Head of Content, this is a great opportunity to help an early-stage, mission-driven fintech grow and succeed.
Your Day-to-Day
- Draft analytical and educational written content about private markets: including private equity, venture capital, real estate, infrastructure, and private credit.
- Provide proofreading and editing support as necessary as part of the content team, and help ensure compliance with SEC rules.
- Collaborate with subject-matter experts across the firm to gather research and data.
- Maintain, refresh, and repurpose our existing content library, including updating data where appropriate or archiving materials to keep content fresh and relevant.
- Work with the Head of Content to organize, document, and prioritize content production.
- Support the Video Editor in producing and summarizing video content, potentially conducting interviews with expert investors.
- Work with the design team to ensure that our graphics are clear, easily understandable, in accordance with our style guide, and accurately communicate a narrative.
- Provide ad hoc copyediting support to other departments across the organization, including our investment, advisory services, and marketing teams.
- Research industry trends and investment strategies, and circulate relevant content.
You are an enthusiastic, collaborative, and creative individual, with a passion for good writing and private markets. You enjoy finding unique ways to communicate a story, and love the challenge of creating a clear, simple narrative from disparate, sometimes complex data sources - which means you are highly numerate, as comfortable slicing and dicing raw data to craft a chart as you are constructing a killer concluding paragraph. You are passionate about finance and technology, and exploring and communicating the impact that they can have on the world.
More broadly, you take pride in what you produce and recognize that the details matter, and go the extra mile to ensure that your/our output is of the requisite quality. You are an adept communicator, able to confidently engage with colleagues at all levels across multiple departments and unafraid to ask questions when you don’t understand. You have the project management and diplomatic skills necessary to marshal collaborative projects from start to finish.

Required Skills
- 4-6 years of financial writing experience, with a significant share of that focused on private markets
- Articulate storyteller. Able to craft clear narratives, communicating sometimes complex topics in the simplest language possible.
- Knowledge of private markets. Can confidently discuss the value proposition and strategies of several private market asset classes.
- Numerate. Able to work confidently with numbers and extract narratives from them.
- Detail-oriented. Takes pride in output quality, recognizing its importance to brand identity.
- Confident communicator. Skilled at engaging with stakeholders to manage collaborative projects.
- Independent. An able collaborator, but still able to drive projects without close supervision.
- Creative. Able to contribute to idea origination and advocate effectively for those ideas.
- Knowledge of SEC compliance requirements for content and marketing production within the finance industry
- Proficiency working with the following data providers: Burgiss, PitchBook, Preqin
- Experience working with video scripts, and producing materials for infographics and animated content
- Experience interviewing senior finance professionals
- Experience writing copy across a range of media, including newsletters, emails, and for social media or other marketing channels
- Experience writing about or broadly knowledgeable about technology and trends in the space
