Who We Are:
Reink Media Group (RMG) is a privately owned, Certified B Corporation™ founded in 2009. Known for its culture that puts people first before profits, RMG encourages teamwork, transparency and respectful candor as we work to help millions of visitors across the globe research and compare financial products and services each year.
RMG’s portfolio of websites includes investor.com, StockBrokers.com, and ForexBrokers.com, among others.
What We’re Looking For:
RMG is looking to hire a fun, talented, creative UX designer who can serve as a trusted, lead user experience expert for all sites across the portfolio.
For over a decade, RMG has employed third parties for design. Given the continued growth of the company (now 21 folks mighty) and portfolio, including the development of unique tools and experiences to aid our readers' financial journey, now is the time to bring design in-house.
What You’ll Do:
As a full-time, in-house superhero UX designer, this senior individual will have a seat at the table as RMG methodically scales its budding product team. You will report directly to co-founder, product leader, and chief hype officer Blain Reinkensmeyer and play an essential role in overseeing and evolving RMG’s design footprint.
RMG’s product has two primary playgrounds: its websites (every page, every style guide) and its proprietary backend CMS (Wordpress? Nope!). As RMG’s lead UX designer, you will work alongside Blain to oversee the user experience for both. This will include a healthy mix of roadmap planning, leading A/B tests and using data (e.g., CrazyEgg, Google Analytics) to evolve current on-page experiences, as well as designing entirely new experiences to (1) serve the reader’s intent and (2) delight our readers.
As RMG’s sole designer, you will have the opportunity to help make decisions that impact the company and its millions of annual readers. While being confident in your craft and comfortable with the responsibility is important, embracing an ego-free, fun, team-focused work environment is equally important. Culture is crucial as you will be communicating and collaborating with company executives, developers, writers, editors, SEOs, data analysts, project managers, and marketers.
Given the sizeable sandbox you will be playing in, you should be obsessively organized (we are big on Asana), endlessly curious, detail-oriented, and abundantly passionate about all things related to design, user experience (UX), A/B testing, wireframes, using design to help readers find the answers they seek, and (fill in the blank here with any other catchy design phrases!).
Given the mouthful above and the uniqueness of this role, Blain created a short video to answer common questions about the company and role. Check it out here (be sure to set playback speed to 1.0x unless you’ve had a lot of coffee this morning!): https://www.loom.com/share/b21af2a0b1fe4d6f86804619e7b6406f.
The Lead UX Designer will be responsible for:
- Serving as the company’s lead UX expert.
- Organizing, implementing, and analyzing A/B UX tests from start to completion.
- Designing new page templates and product experiences from vision to wireframes and development-ready assets.
- Establishing, documenting, and maintaining RMG’s Figma-based design system and reusable UI components.
- Educating staff members on design thinking methods, standards, and best practices.
- Supporting ongoing product initiatives (roadmap planning, product management, and stakeholder communication).
- Leading the charge to research new design formats, standards, trends, third-party tools, and similar.
- Planning and executing qualitative research studies as needed.
- Responsibilities may be modified, added, or removed by a Managing Partner as needed.
What You’ll Need:
Required:
- 6+ years of overall design experience.
- 2+ years of role leadership or management experience.
- Ample experience using design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Zeplin, and similar.
- Experience running A/B tests and using a combination of data and gut intuition to make design recommendations.
- Killer attention to detail and mad organizational skills.
- Self-discipline and internal motivation.
- The ability to work gracefully under pressure.
- Must love dogs or cats and despise developers accidentally stretching, shifting, enlarging, shrinking, or otherwise breaking preset design standards.
Desired:
- Experience leading both short- and long-term design projects.
- Experience communicating with developers or a willingness to learn from Blain, who has worked with resident lead developer Mike for over a decade and is skilled at the fine art of dev geekspeak interpretation.
- Experience using third-party platforms, tools, and services for light user testing initiatives.
- Experience conducting user persona research.
- Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana.
- Appreciation for general personal financial health and wellness and helping consumers make informed financial decisions.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and an initiative-taking attitude.
- The highest level of integrity.
Full-time Employment Benefits:
- Unlimited paid time off
- Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) employee healthcare plan
- Dental and vision insurance
- Employer-paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance
- Safe Harbor 401(k) with 5% employer match
- Discretionary profit-sharing program
- Monthly communication stipend
- Annual health and wellness stipend
- All-expenses-paid, work-free annual company retreat
- Professional development program
- Company swag to flaunt your RMG pride
