We are recruiting an experienced Social Media Manager, as part of the Content Division, to create and publish content across all social media channels to promote Daily Kos content, expand brand awareness, reach new audiences, and drive engagement. The Social Media Manager is responsible for all social media calendars and content and reports to the head of the Content Division.
This role is exclusively represented by the Pacific Media Workers Guild, CWA Local 39521.
The position may require weekend work.
Responsibilities
Create and implement social media strategies and develop social media content for current and new platforms
Manage Daily Kos’ social media calendar and posting schedule across all platforms
Cover live events, including presidential debates, congressional hearings, press conferences, and breaking news situations, in coordination with Newsroom staff
Serve as the point of contact for all social media platforms
Use analytics tools, including Chartbeat, Google Analytics, Amplitude, and platform-specific metrics tools, to monitor content performance and generate monthly reports to identify trends and new opportunities
Work cross-functionally with members from Content, Community Moderation, and Activism to strategically promote content and advocacy initiatives on social
Create visual, audio, and video assets for distribution on multi-media and social platforms
Collaborate with head of content to better consider and center diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in Daily Kos’ social media approach
Create social toolkits for campaigns and disseminate amongst key stakeholders
Support community engagement and moderation across Daily Kos’ flagship social channels
Capture Daily Kos’ brand voice in social copy and ensure consistency across social channels

Required Knowledge & Experience
3+ years of relevant work experience managing social media accounts, with newsroom experience strongly preferred
Excellent writing and communication skills
Demonstrated history tracking social analytics and distilling them into actionable takeaways
Deep knowledge of social and media analytics tools, including Buffer, Google Analytics, Chartbeat, Amplitude, and platform-specific metrics tools
Be adept at balancing a creative approach with a data-driven mindset
Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Project management experience from concept to completion
Experience with video-clipping software, such as TVEyes
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Understanding of progressive national politics
Excellent news judgment
Strong time management and organizational skills
Comfortable with a virtual working environment
Be tech and internet savvy (we use Google Docs, Slack, Dropbox, Asana, and lots of other tools that make work life easier)
Desired Knowledge & Experience
Basic Photoshop Skills
Experience working for a digital publisher, public media, or nonprofit organization
Experience creating and managing paid social ads
Interest in the evolving social media landscape
Possess a proactive approach in looking for opportunities where the team/business can improve whether it be efficiency, measurement, or collaboration
